Pursuing dentistry in Singapore | Dr Watt Sook May x Aspirecare podcast
i was on a podcast 🎙️ — here's everything i shared about dentistry, residency & life in private practice
recently, i had the privilege of being featured on the aspire care podcast, hosted by liyi (year 1 NUS nursing student) and CC (NYP nursing graduate). aspirecare is a wonderful platform where healthcare voices are heard, stories are shared, and change is inspired — they've featured guests across medicine, nursing, physiotherapy and allied health, and i'm really grateful to have been part of it.
we covered a lot of ground — from why i chose dentistry, to what dental school is actually like, to my own braces journey as a patient, to my decision to pursue an orthodontic residency, and whether dentists really do have great work-life balance (spoiler: it's complicated).
so here's the full breakdown 👇
things i wish someone told me as a dental student (Copy)
there are things i wish someone had told me when i was a dental student.
maybe someone did — but at that time, i didn't fully believe it. because i didn't have enough faith in myself.
if you're in the thick of it right now — wherever you are in the world — this post is for you.
my top 5 horror movies in dental school
here are my top 5 horror movies that every dental student will recognise: from the gut-punch of a last-minute patient cancellation to losing lab instruments for the hundredth time (and yes, paying for every single one). if you survived dental school, you'll know exactly what i mean.
What’s in my bag
if you've ever wondered what gear i actually use for content creation and in the clinic, here's the full breakdown. this list has been built up over time, and i've linked everything so you can find them easily!
As the title suggests, I’ll be speaking Korean in front of the camera for the next 30 days.
I’ve been learning Korean for over 10 years, but I still sound awkward because I haven’t had many chances to actually speak the language. And I’m also awkward in front of the camera 🥲 hope to improve from this challenge!
I’ll also be sharing the story of how I started learning Korean as my third language. I’ll be uploading this gradually and practising more in between!
About me
Hello! 👋I’m Dr Watt Sook May, a dentist in private practice here in Singapore. 🇸🇬
I was once a kid who didn’t like going to the dentist 😅 — but inspired by my dad, I eventually followed in his footsteps and went on to complete my Masters in Orthodontics. 🪥💙
Outside the clinic, my family and friends know me as May. I try my best to stay active 🏃♀️ I’m a huge fan of Korean dramas, shows, and music — even picked up the language along the way! 🎶
This page is where I’ll be sharing a mix of my dental journey, life outside the clinic, and the stories that shaped me.
Thanks for being here — I can’t wait to connect with you all! 🤍
